September - 9 pounds 8 ounces, 22.4 inches
October - 11 pounds 12 ounces, 22.8 inches
She seems to be gaining weight well, but I don't know about the length, less than a half inch in a month? I don't know if it's a mistaken measurement, or just one of those strange oddities in babies growth patterns. Anyone out there have any reassurances to ease my concerns? It is so hard to not have her here to know exactly what is going on. I can't even be sure that she has recovered from the bug she was fighting when we were there. Almost 4 weeks later, we're still not 100%, (yes the saga has continued past our luxurious date night at the hospital, more on that another time though) so I would love to know how she is feeling! I have e-mailed our program coordinator to ask the hogar director how she is doing though I don't know what kind of information (if any) I'll receive. We take what we can get in this process!

I am be sooooo freakin' blonde, that it's scary......I just put 2 + 2 together and FINALLY realize you and Greg are ill because you caught whatever it is that Ana had........I feel sooooooooooooo dumb!!!!
Beanhead, not a word out of you!
From the MANY weight/height checks with my kiddos, I've found that if they have had great weight gains, usually they haven't grown in height, and vice versa. From what the GI pedi and the general pedi have told me, it can be perfectly normal for what your seeing in Ana. I think I would be more concerned come the next health report if she still hasn't grown in length. Maybe it's just a glitch in the translation. (My GI always uses kg. and has to do the conversion to lbs. for me!)
Sounds like Ana is doing well. Remember how long it took for Ella to gain weight. It could be the same thing with Ana's length. I would not be worried at this time. The appointments may have just happened before a growth spourt. She is fine.
Cammie,
In general, Latin Americans are much shorter than we are in the US. I tower over everyone here in Peru, men and women. Latin American kids are just peanuts - the average weight at birth here in Peru is something like 5 or 6 pounds. My American friends have had 7 or 8 pound babies down here and the hospital thinks they are enormous. So don't worry. I'm sure the height is nothing to be alarmed about. Ana probably just going to be shorter due to the fact that she is Latin American.
I love reading the blog and hearing your updates.
Take care,
Michelle
I wouldn't worry at all about her length measurements. The important thing is that she is consistently growing each month. As you know, Guatemalans tend to be on the short side, so you may just end up with a petite little girl. For comparison's sake, Lili weighed 11 lbs 8 ozs at 3 mths and was 23 inches long. At 4 mths she was 12 lbs 12 ozs and 25 inches long. However, between her 5 and 6 month check up, she grew less than an inch and gained exactly 1 pound. It really can vary from month to month and it is common for measurements to be off a bit.
I would not worry about the length. Look at Elizabeth. She has always been in the 5th percentile for height since she was two months old. Also, I have watched them do measurments on 4 children and when they are moving around alot it is difficult to get an accurate height measurment. One time the nurse did the height and it looked like Alex had shrunk with her measurments. As long as she is gaining weight I wouldn't be too concerned.
I echo Nancy and the gang's comment. Olivia just had her 6-month check-up and he said she only grew a 1/4 of an inch. But, trying to put myself in your shoes, I think it must be so different for you. Once she is in your arms and you see how much she is eating, and you see her rolling over and reaching those milestones, the numbers won't matter so much anymore. All that matters is she is with you and she is happy. That day will be here soon!
Love,
Amanda
Hvae you forgotten already....
Do you not remember that Greg's aunt is less then 2 feet tall...
And well you...Your not going to be a basket ball player.....for this you can blame your mom's side of the family....
Just remember GREAT and WONDERFUL things coming in small packages....
Hi Cammie-I think that Michelle has got it right. I addition it seems that Anna, who was a bit of a Thumbalina at birth is of Myan decent, and I believe that they are smaller still-at least those that I've met. From being around Latino people for about 11 years now, they do tend to be smaller that we are-especially the women. Gus is the tallest one in his family if that gives you any idea, and he is about 5'8". And his papa is not that much taller than my mom. So I think she is ok-my guess is that it is her heritage.
I do want to add to Anon's comment regarding Greg's "2-foot aunt". I believe this person is referring to my mother, Agnes who is obviously more that 2-feet tall and actually hits 5-feet at 80 years old (she has lost some height due to aging and shrinking-not unusual). And while my mother is petite, she is a giant among those of us who know and love her.
I never said I did not love her.
I love her very much.
But there NO way she is any where near 5 feet tall.
MAYBe at most 2 feet 1 inch
-Greg
I didn't know that Greg's Aunt Laurie is only two feet tall.
Aunt Laurie who?
I just got off the phone with the FBI and they have confirm that Greg does not have a "Aunt Laurie"
gee, I tell you.....first they cheat by using a sound track during a game they had not CHANCE of winnner....No these Hooiser are spreading rumors of people that do not exist....
Gregory-Do you have an aunt Lorie that is a Hoosier? How is she related to us? Is she on the Fraize or your mom's side of the family? I always thought we were the only immigrants! This is exciting!!! It would be so great to have family out here. How did I not know this? And by the way, your Auntie Agnes would be MOST offended if she knew you were telling all of cyberspace that she is 2 feet tall...this will definitely put you on Santa's no-no list!!!
Dear Greg-
I don't believe that you don't who I am. Don't you remember me? I remember you from Tom and Laurie when you were visiting your nana. But that was a long time ago and you were just a kid.
